Kirk Alyn
Kirk Alyn (original name John Feggo, Jr.) resided with his family at 47 West Central Avenue (just off North Main Street). He left the Borough of Wharton in his sophomore year at the local high school. He left school to follow his dream of becoming an actor, despite his father's hopes that he become a carpenter.
Kirk traveled to New York City where he had small parts in a few stage productions. Kirk traveled to California and was able to secure small parts in about a dozen movies, such as "My Sister Eileen". He also played small parts on "The Donna Reed Show".
Mr. Alyn's break came in 1948 when he became the silver screen's original "Superman". He appeared in two multi-part serials, Superman in 1948 and Atom Man vs. Superman in 1950.
Later generations may remember him playing Lois Lane's father in 1978's Superman.
He passed away in Texas on March 14, 1999 of natural causes.
