Municipal Alliance

Coordinator: Robin Ghebreal

The Municipal Alliance sponsors a variety of "Natural High Events" for children and families throughout the year. Events include movie nights, Canal Day, HalloWharton, an annual Carnival and the 5KRun. These events offer wonderful opportunities for the community to come together in a drug/alcohol free setting. The Alliance also sponsors dances for the MacKinnon Middle School students several times a year. These dances give the students a chance to meet and socialize in a drug and alcohol free setting. The Alliance also supports "Project Graduation" for Morris Hills High School students. This event is a drug and alcohol free night for seniors who wish to celebrate sober. The Alliance also helps to sponsor LEAD (formerly DARE), holds in school programs on current issues for both students and parents, sponsors a trip for senior citizens, and a trip for middle school/high school students. They offer training for liquor stores and restaurants regarding ID checks and over serving. They participate annually in Knock Out Opioid Day with information going out to our doctors, dentists and pharmacies regarding prescription abuse. They offer information to seniors regarding prescription safety and disposal.

A prescription drop box is located at the Wharton Police Station, 10 Robert St. Please drop off any unused prescriptions for disposal. No syringes may be dropped off in this drop box. For safe disposal of syringes, visit the Board of Health webpage.

The Municipal Alliance provides funding for "Peer to Peer" and "Conflict Resolution" programs for all school age students. These programs are geared towards leadership, self-confidence, teamwork, and team building amongst their peers. During the school year the Alliance also offers drug/alcohol workshops for students.
